DIGITIZING ARCOLOGIES
Arcosanti, where I worked and lived as a planning intern, is an ‘urban laboratory’ from the vision of architect Paolo Soleri. It is the foremost example of his philosophy for city design, the ‘Arcology’, a combination of the words ‘Architecture” and ‘Ecology’. In addition to Arcosanti, Soleri designed 30 potential arcologies, diagramming how each Arcology can ecologically integrate into a unique landscape. I worked to bring those original 1970 designs into the digital age, by making computer models to be 3D printed and displayed in Arcosanti’s gallery. The models offer an approachable way to understanding the sophistication and breadth of his concept.
